About Barry Neal

Barry Neal has worked his way up the comedy ladder the old fashioned way, by working hard, taking advice from those who have been successful, and never letting others tell him what he couldn’t do.

Barry’s beginnings were unusual. After graduating from Northwestern University and completing a successful run in the famous Mee-Ow Show (who’s celebrity members have included Julia Louis Dreyfus, Dermot Mulroney, George Newborn, Craig Bierko, Seth Meyers, and Ana Gasteyer), his brother dared him to go onstage at an open mic to do a routine.  Barry was a hit that night, and knew that stand-up comedy was his next mountain to climb.  However, stand-up comedy is not a skill that is learned overnight, and for the next year Barry played every hole in the wall club he could and performed for more drunks and characters than in the famous bar scene from Star Wars.

After a year of traveling and playing the dingy bars, Barry returned to Los Angeles and auditioned at the World Famous Improv.  Barry passed the audition and for the next 3 years was a regular comedian and house m/c.  During that time, Barry learned from the best comedians in the country.  Jerry Seinfeld was a regular.  He watched people like Bill Maher, Ellen DeGeneres, Paul Reiser, and Tim Allen just to name a few.  Barry learned by not only watching these comics but by being a good listener when these comics would talk comedy.  After a few years of being at the Improv, Barry hit the road again, but this time as a headliner and performing at comedy clubs around the country.

Barry’s style is clean, high energy, and relationship material was a hit in almost every market.  He quickly moved up the comedy ladder and was on cable and network tv, from MTV, NBC, Comedy Central, and VH-1.  Barry’s act was noticed by a production company that loved his Counselor of Love persona, and his act is currently being shopped as a sitcom called The Counselor of Love that Barry wrote along with his partner Dan Patterson, who was the creator and executive producer of Who’s Line Is It Anyway?

Barry has been mostly performing at corporate functions, casinos and military bases around the country as The Love N Laughter Show.  Barry jokes about married life with children, while his female opening act get laughs with her take on the single life.

For Barry, it has been a long road to the top, and he is still striving every day to get better.  His show is not just a series of jokes, but a show that is self contained and one that will leave the audience feeling great knowing they saw someone that has worked hard to make his show great and has crafted the set to make sure everyone leaves with a smile.
